People warned of quarry dangers
MALVERN Hills Conservators are warning people to stay out of the lakes at flooded quarries, which have claimed more than one life over the years.
Now that warm weather is here, people may be tempted to go for a swim at the lake in the Gullet Quarry, or other lakes in the Malvern Hills.
But Conservators' director Ian Rowat said: "There have been fatalities in the past and we don't want to see any more.
"It's easy for people to get into trouble in the water and we're just asking people to stay safe."
The call has been echoed by West Mercia Police, which said: "It is often impossible to gauge the depths of these waters and where water levels are unknown, jumping or diving in can cause serious injury or drowning.
"Water can also be very cold, in stark contrast to the high air and body temperatures. The sudden change in temperature when entering the water can create serious problems for swimmers."

Why don't the conservators construct a safe place for people to swim? They have plenty of land and plenty of water to go with it.

Aah, the beauty of Natural Selection. The brother of the creature from the Black Lagoon might be living in Gullet Quarry and swimmers disappearing on a daily basis but thick people will still decide to take a dip and anything that elevates the mean intelligence level of the populace is alright by me. I don't think that enough people are drowning in the quarry. Instead of giving out ASBOs toe-rags should be rubbed-down with Lynx Africa and thrown in.
Wise word from the police though,[italic]''water can also be very cold..''[/italic] Quite so Mr Plod but if the brother of the creature from the Black Lagoon won't keep the morons out then the nippy water won't either.
