Safety system set for Canada
AN airport in Canada will be the first to install the latest version of a safety system developed in Malvern.
Qinetiq's Tarsier radar system has been operating at Vancouver International Airport for more than a year, scanning runways for debris that can damage aircraft taking off or landing.
Now it's being upgraded with a set of cameras that operators can use to visually verify debris detected by the radar.
Phil McLachlan, managing director of QinetiQ Airport Technologies, said: "With this purchase Vancouver International Airport has cemented its reputation as an early adopter of technology that makes air travel safer.
"We are confident that cameras will prove a useful addition to the Tarsier system, reducing the uncertainty levels around runway operation and so allowing a more predictable and efficient service."
