MALVERN Spring Gardening Show exhibitor Marc Stapleford had more than the judge's opinions to worry about as he displayed his prize garden on Thursday (May 8).

Crowds and cameramen flocked around Marc as he got down on one knee and asked his girlfriend, Louise Galdes, to be his wife.

Fortunately she could not have been happier to accept and the pair were congratulated with applause from gardening show visitors.

Louise said: "It was right up his street and he couldn't have done it any better "I thought something was happening when all these cameras appeared out of nowhere."

Marc, aged 34, had kept the arrangements top secret over the past few week and bride-to-be Louise Galdes, aged 28, hadn't suspected a thing.

The landscape architect, from Coalville, Leicestershire, had arranged the surprise proposal with the help of the BBC and the Royal Horticultural Society and hopes it will be shown to the nation in an upcoming episode of Gardener's World.

Mark said: "She kept pestering me to ask her so I thought what a great place to do it."

"I cannot really say how I was feeling to be honest but it was worrying me more than getting the garden finished."

Marc's garden, What Ya Got, was fittingly designed for a young couple who had decided to move in together and wanted a simple, modern garden that makes use of what it already there.

Marc presented Louise with an antique white gold ring, chosen with the help of Louise's mother.

"I'm hoping it will all sink in soon," added Louise.
