BROMYARD I v ASTWOOD BANK.

A CAPTAIN'S performance from Bromyard skipper Zahid Saeed saw them through to a hard-fought victory at home to Astwood Bank.

The wicket of Astwood's Freeman left Zahid with figures of 5 for 18 from 12.4 overs, his 15th haul of five wickets or more for Bromyard in Worcestershire league matches, taking his career WCL total for Bromyard to 200 wickets, the first Bromyard player to reach that milestone since the club joined the league in 1999.

Matt Bullock (nine overs, 2 for 27) and Ash Bullock (nine overs, 2-39) both bowled well and were the other main wicket-takers for Bromyard, as Astwood Bank were all out for 151 in 46.4 overs. In reply, Astwood Bank got an early boost when left-arm seamer Freeman removed the prolific Ollie Bailey lbw without scoring, to leave Bromyard 0 for 1.

Edd Oliver and Bullock, the two left-handers, chipped away at the target, taking the score to 79 for 2 by the 25 over mark.

The remaining runs needed were down to just 50 when Bullock played around an off-cutter from medium pacer Gordon and was bowled for 40, and soon after Zahid Saeed came to the crease.

Edd Oliver was run out for 32 during his side's innings.

The seconds beat Bewdley in their first match.

The thirds suffered an eight wicket defeat against Eastnor thirds.
