Green bag derby draw
BARNARDS Green scored a winning draw against Worcester Nomads in the 1st Division of the Worcestershire Cricket Board League.
Barnard's Green had much the better of the local derby at home against Worcester Nomads.
Green made a tentative start with opener Mark Hooper bowled for one by Damon Gariff.
Gariff then took out Kevin Golder and Liam Paddock in two balls and, at 30 for 3, Green were up against it. Tim Clarke and skipper Chris Smedley set about repairing the damage, taking the score to 105 before Clarke played on to James Smith for an enterprising 57.
Smedley (49) was joined by Phil Harris (48), who together swung the game Green's way. Tim Williams and overseas signing Matt Shinell (13no) set the tail wagging as Green closed on 250 for 9.
Gariff was the pick of the Nomads' bowling with 5-60.
Nomads lost Dean Sanders without scoring to Matt Brookes, who also dismissed James Smith, well caught at mid-wicket by Tim Clarke. Nomads' hopes flickered briefly as Malcolm Jones and Gariff dug in.
Jones was then run out for 31 and Nomads' wickets fell steadily as Smedley, bowling beautifully, closed up one end taking 2 for 19 off 15 overs.
Paul Gardner (6no) and the impressive Gariff (65no) denied Green the victory they deserved as Nomads finished on 159-8. Nomads took six points to Green's 17.
Barnards Green seconds beat Nomads by seven wickets.
Nomads struggled from the start with tight, accurate bowling from Sam Spencer and I. Scullion (3-10) making scoring very difficult.
Dixon (22) contributed in the middle order but the introduction of Drinkwater (5-40) changed the game.
Marsh scored a brisk 27 before being excellently caught by White and the Nomads finished on 108 all out.
Thompson bowled well (2-30) at the start of the Barnards Green reply and took two early wickets along with a run-out from vice-captain Nic Lloyd. Captain Jez Clarke then hit a quick-fire 61no to end any hopes Nomads had.
Barnards Green finished on 109-3 to earn them the win and 20 points.
