Malvern chess win at double

MALVERN Chess Club convincingly beat their Redditch counterparts twice in a week in their latest round of league matches.

In the first match between the sides at Redditch, Malvern won by 4.5 points to 1.5, with wins from Brian Turner, Ian Clarke, John Knee and Geoffrey Herbert.

Brian Turner won by a king's side attack in his contest.

Malvern won the return fixture five points to one. Brian Turner could make no progress on Board one but Ian Clarke, John Knee and Geoffrey Herbert again won.

Ian Clarke won an exciting game from a very unclear position in a time scramble.

Peter Yeadon drew on board five and board six was a win by default for Malvern.

Malvern, facing a busy spell of end of season fixtures, play the division's champions Kidderminster in their final game in the County League.
