Woman rescued from Malvern Hills

AMBULANCE crews have come to the rescue of a woman who fractured her ankle in a fall while walking on the Malvern Hills.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to Hangman's Hill shortly before 12.50pm today.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "Initially, a rapid response vehicle and ambulance crew were sent to the scene, but their vehicles were not able to get high enough up the hill to get to the patient.

"The air ambulance was called for. It landed on the highest peak of the hills. Its crew took a spinal board down the hill to the patient, in order to carry her further down to a cottage where the land crew were then waiting.

"The patient, a 69 year old woman who had fractured her left ankle, was then taken by land ambulance to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further assessment and treatment."
