Abandoned cats need new homes

CAT lovers can show how much they care by fostering an unwanted cat or kitten to help the national charity Cats Protection.

The local branch of Cats Protection provides care for unwanted and abandoned cats until new homes are found and has launched a campaign to attract more volunteers to get involved with its work, including providing temporary foster homes for cats.

Last year Worcester and District Cats Protection rehomed more than 450 cats but with more volunteers more could be done.

Foster mum' Valerie Briggs has been looking after cats for Cats Protection for more than 20 years and said: "I'd recommend fostering to anyone, including families who love animals. Cats love company and most cats respond to having children around."

Volunteers are provided with cat pens and all expenses are paid for.

Cats Protection also needs phone angels' to answer homing requests and the lost and found register and handymen who can help with the set up and maintenence of cat pens, including electricians for the necessary wiring.

The branch also needs fund raisers.

Volunteers wanting to help Cats Protection should contact co-ordinator Lynn Glaze on 01386 751925 and pictures of all cats currently needing a new home are on the website at www.worcestercats.org.uk.
