More Wyvern League success for LADASC
LEDBURY And District Amateur Swimming Club celebrated another victory in the third round of the Wyvern League at Ebbw Vale.
A 56-point lead over closest rivals, Heads of the Valley, set the Ledbury team's hopes high to realise their ambition of retaining the trophy at the final in May.
LADASC got off to an excellent start with the under 11s freestyle relay team of Danielle Fitzgerald, Laura Quigley, Leah Heath, Alice Price, Michael Adair, Peter Crocombe, William Owen and William Wilce setting a blistering pace to win the first two events.
This feat was emulated by the under 15 relay teams which included Issey Massey in her first Wyvern League call-up.
After the first 20 events, Ledbury swimmers had notched up 15 first places and five seconds to give them a 25-point lead.
Notable individual swims in the early events came from Elizabeth Thomas and Daniel Clark in the under 10s backstroke event.
The next events saw Ledbury swimmers triumphant in the freestyle and medley relays, with the club's younger swimmers spearheading the victories.
Under nine girls Issy Heath, Elizabeth Thomas, Caitlin Adair and Milly Cook claimed victory in the Medley relay, as did under nine boys Edward Best, Harry Harris, Joseph Cotton, and Pierce Owen.
These performances helped Ledbury accumulate a 43-point lead after 40 events. Sophie Green and Alice Quigley both had debut swims in individual events. Green won her under 10 breaststroke event and Quigley swam an excellent race to win the under 13 two-length freestyle.
The final event, the mixed canon, was by no means a formality, producing an exciting finale to the afternoon's gala with first place awarded to Ledbury.
The final scores were: Ledbury 298 points, Heads of the Valley 242, Chepstow 186, Cwmbran 163 and Ross 136.
